New Album: Meshuga Baby

Emma Smith Presents: Meshuga Baby

Released: 10th June 2022

June 2022 will mark the release of ‘Meshuga Baby’, the brand new album from the

charismatic and mesmerizing jazz vocalist Emma Smith. With diverse and extensive experience performing everywhere from the 02 Arena to the leading jazz clubs of New York City, collaborating and recording with the likes of Michael Buble, Robbie Williams, Georgie Fame and Seal along the way, Emma Smith has created a formidable reputation as a powerful and expressive artist in UK jazz. Now with her first new solo album in 10 years, Emma Smith is set to make an indelible mark on the European and international musical landscape, by showcasing a body of work that perfectly demonstrates her prowess as a rising star with one of the very best voices in the business.

In a nod to Emma’s proud Jewish heritage, ‘Meshuga Baby’ is a play on words based on ‘Meshuge’, the Yiddish word for ‘crazy’ - a judgment that Smith describes as “so often passed on brave ambitious women that are not afraid express their opinions and showcase their talent.” The album is a carefully curated selection of much loved classics interpreted in Emma's unique way, combined with some delightfully quirky originals that showcase Emma’s flair for songwriting.

The concepts and messages throughout Meshuga Baby paint a picture of a compelling and radiant female protagonist navigating the trials and tribulations of modern life. The uniquely arranged versions of songs such as ‘I Don’t Care’ combined with bold and witty originals such as ‘Sit On My Knee And Tell Me That You Love Me’ take the listener on an emotional rollercoaster and personal journey, eventually resulting in total emancipation and liberation from life’s many challenges. The combination of this and the absolute quality of the music and performance itself makes the album stand out as a poignant experience.

Emma Smith’s many accolades to date includes the widespread success of her long established vocal harmony group The Puppini Sisters, as well as a stint as a broadcaster on BBC Radio 3, not to mention a range of awards and compliments from organisations and critics alike, including winning the prestigious 'Worshipful Company Of Musicians Medal. Now with the release of the new album and a series of live dates throughout the UK, Emma Smith will continue her rise to prominence as a multifaceted singer-songwriter with outstanding vocal ability – Meshuga Baby is set to become one of 2022’s stand out releases and an important addition to this year’s cultural diaspora.
